The 1st. On November 2021, we started with the cultivation of the first 53 hectares of Stevia in Guasave Sinaloa, introducing state-of-the-art technology in drip irrigation systems to achieve the proper development of Stevia plants.
The selected variety was Morita II, for having the best characteristics of sweetness and consistency of the extracts obtained.
Before starting this phase, we were able to successfully adapt the Stevia plant to the climatic and soil conditions in Sinaloa, achieving a harvest with record biomass production (dry leaves) in the first 5.2 hectares planted.
This phase will last 6 months and at that stage, we will analyze the production costs and the yields obtained per hectare, in order to optimize the results and thus invite other farmers to participate in this AgroCluster and be an excellent business alternative, compared to other existing cultivation options in the northern region of Sinaloa.
The objective is to have 2,000 hectares planted with Stevia in the first 3 years of operation of the Agrocluster, positioning Sinaloa as the world's largest producer of this crop.
Below we share photographs of the installation of the irrigation systems and the works carried out to make this project a reality, which will undoubtedly change the industry of sweeteners used in the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical sectors.
